Richard Musgrave Visiting Professorship 2020: Claus Thustrup Kreiner

The Richard Musgrave Visiting Professorship 2020 was awarded to Professor Claus Thustrup Kreiner by CESifo and the International Institute of Public Finance (IIPF). He is Professor of Economics at University of Copenhagen since 2005, and Founder and Director of the Center for Economic Behavior and Inequality (CEBI) since 2017. Claus Thustrup Kreiner has been an active member of the CESifo Research Network since 2000 and is also the Area Director of the Public Economics Network Area.

From 2008-2009 he was member of the Danish Tax Commission and from 2010-2014, co-chair of the Danish Economic Council. Since 2019 he has been on the Board of Management of the International Institute of Public Finance (IIPF).

Professor Kreiner’s primary research specialization is in Public Economics but he has also worked on other areas such as Labor Economics, Household Finance, and Experimental Economics. He is co-editor of the Journal of Public Economics, His research has been published in the top journals (e.g. Econometrics and American Economic Review) and has covered topics such as inequality in income, wealth and health, optimal redistribution policy and behavioral responses to public policy.

Professor Claus Thustrup Kreiner gave the 12th CESifo and IIPF Richard Musgrave Lecture on Behavioral Heterogeneity, Inequality and Public Policy, ONLINE on 15 December 2020. The laudation was delivered by the IIPF Vice-President, Katherine Cuff (Professor of Economics at McMaster University in Canada).
