Global Economy

The Global Economy Area, organized by Peter H. Egger (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich), breaks new ground in contemporary problems facing the global economy, ranging from trade in goods and services to foreign direct investment and migration. Key questions examined include how and why globalization speeds up technical change, how firms are organized in global value chains and their impact on real outcomes, inequality and marginalization, the speed of transactions, and the role of global institutions such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the World Trade Organization.
